At this stunning residence in the heart of Lincoln Park, we were called upon to perform a comprehensive steam pressure washing of the building’s limestone facade. Our team arrived on-site prepared to assess the surface condition and implement the most effective cleaning methods to restore the home’s exterior to its original beauty.

Assessment & Challenges

Upon inspection, we identified two distinct types of contamination affecting the limestone:

1. Biological Pollution – This consisted primarily of organic growth such as algae, mold, and mildew, which had accumulated over time due to moisture retention on the stone’s porous surface.
2. Atmospheric Contamination – Certain areas exhibited a buildup of soot, grime, and particulate matter, largely attributed to emissions from buses, cars, and airplanes common in urban environments like Chicago.

Each type of pollution required a different approach to ensure thorough removal while preserving the integrity of the limestone.

Our Cleaning Approach

To effectively address these issues, we implemented a two-step cleaning process tailored to the specific contaminants:

• Steam Pressure Washing for Biological Contamination
  Using a low-pressure, high-temperature steam cleaning technique, we were able to safely and effectively eliminate algae, mildew, and other organic matter. This method not only cleans the surface but also helps prevent future regrowth by thoroughly sanitizing the stone.

• Specialized Cleaning for Atmospheric Buildup
  For areas affected by vehicle and industrial emissions, we used a combination of gentle detergents and controlled pressure washing to break down and lift stubborn grime without damaging the limestone. This step was crucial in restoring the stone’s natural brightness and uniform appearance.
